Cantilevers Architecture
Modernism is back in style. And so are its architectural tropes. The cantilever had been used historically in the construction of bridges until 20th century modernists saw that light, space, and air could be increased trifold in an extended building. The cantilever allowed architects to create homes that floated over their car garages, roofs that created dramatic horizontality, and residences that could be sited on uneven slopes, with views of natural or urban landscapes.
Here are some of the most stunning, and structurally clever, cantilevered projects.
